Houseboat "Loudoun" Drawing# 19009 ![]() Click image above for larger picture. This design is for a couple who wants to spend time on the water cruising without spending the money associated with the maintenance of a larger boat. She is capable of cruising leisurely, in style and economy. She can be built cheaply by the couple themselves or by a local boat builder. The construction is done with readily available dimensional lumber and galvanized fastenings. The Loudoun has some unusual features for her size. She has wide side deck protected by the upper deck overhang and high bulwarks of almost 24", giving her a "big ship" feeling. This protected side deck makes the traffic for and aft in total safety outside the cabin. The overhang top will protect the side of the cabin from the sun and rain. Sunbathing can be done on the upper deck or on the counter stern deck. If the weather is bad, you can go inside, make a good stew on the kerosene stove and eat comfortably using the folding table or read a good book resting on the settee. A door at the aft
end of the saloon give access to the head.

The trunk cabin is built on top of this deck, which means even if some water comes inside the cabin, it will drain automatically without endangering the stability or the buoyancy of the boat. This is also practical if you want to use buckets of water to clean the interior, mostly the head. This feature allows the use of all aluminum shed windows with screens which open. If a window is damaged for what ever reason, the boat is not in danger. As a matter of fact, the boat can continue without the house! The windshield has a two part glass which can swing up in good weather. The Loudoun is powered
with a 9.8 hp 4 cycle outboard motor, hidden in the counter stern, where
the gas tank is also located.
